How to keep your carpets clean this autumn

Autumn can present its own challenges when it comes to keeping your carpets clean. Wetter weather and debris such as leaves on the ground can easily create a more untidy living space if you don’t keep on top of things. We’ve put together a few tips for you and your family to follow which will help keep the carpets in your home clean this autumn.

Shoes off inside

It might be normal for people to take their shoes off in your home but it isn’t the case for everyone. We would recommend it as good practice, however, as most of the stuff brought in from outside that ends up on your carpets is brought in underfoot and then gets gradually worked into your carpets over time.

Doormats

If you follow our first piece advice regarding not wearing shoes in the house, it’s even better to also have a doormat where you take off your shoes. Doormats ensure that the carpets in your porch don’t get worn down by heavy foot traffic and they also absorb some of the unwanted particles of dirt, dust and bacteria that you don’t want in the rest of the house.

Vacuum regularly

This is good advice at any time of year! Regular vacuuming will prevent surface dirt and dust from penetrating deep into your carpets where it can become impossible to reach with household cleaning devices.

Call a professional

There’s only so much that vacuuming can achieve, and all carpet manufacturers recommend you have your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year. For most carpets we use the Hot Water Extraction (HWE) method of cleaning which offers an unparalleled deep clean that flushes out harmful allergens and bacteria hidden deep in the pile.

By using HWE we avoid exposing you to the chemicals that other carpet cleaning techniques expose you to. The ‘hot’ in Hot Water Extraction is important because this heat helps to aid the efficiency of the clean along with the high amount of pressure used by the system to clean deep into the fibres and kill bacteria.
